U-V markings will become clearly visible when exposed by the Mini Fluorescent Lamp as a fluorescent blue mark, thereby ensuring definite identification of property that has been marked.
All U.K. Police stations are now equipped with U-V lamps so that they can check any property for U-V marks.
Once batteries have been correctly inserted in the Mini Fluorescent Lamp, the on/off switch, positioned on one side, is used for normal operation.

Operation:
The Money Detector is simply an ultra-violet light source. Most of the mission sensitive monetary documents are printed with special fluorescent ink which is invisible in ordinary light but glows or become opaque under ultra-violet light. In some cases the UV Ink changes color under UV or Black Light. Another important use of Black Light is to differentiate between ordinary wood pulp paper or synthetic paper and cotton based security paper. Ordinary paper reflects black light and become bright, while cotton based paper absorbs black light. Most of the monetary documents are made with cotton based paper and hence can be easily identified in Black Light.
